Training Program Success Stories

Stephen H.
Stephen H., a high school graduate, was eager to enter the Computer Technician Training Program after hearing about it from a family friend. During training he worked hard and proved be to a dedicated student and committed learner. As the end of the training program he was referred to NBC for a 6 month paid internship. After only two months he has offered a full-time position as a technician earning over $42,000.

Jennifer M.
After having her second child and being out of the labor force for over two years, Jennifer graduated from the Per Scholas program with her A+ Certification in January 2004. In April, an unpaid internship at an established New York based nonprofit became available, so she took the internship to gain experience while continuing to look for work. She took the internship seriously and in May 2004 her hard work paid off--she was offered a position as a full-time technician earning $30,000 a year. Jennifer is still working and doing well, and continues to love her job.

Clark H.
Like so many others, Clark's life was drastically altered by the impact of the tragedy of September 11, 200l. In January of 2002 he was laid-off by Payne Webber after five years of employment, and despite his solid work history Clark was unable to find a job. When he enrolled with Per Scholas, he was at the tail end of his unemployment benefits and on the verge of becoming homeless. Despite extreme hardship Clark always remained positive. Two months after completing training he began working for a Fortune 500 company as a technician, and is back on the road to a successful and prosperous career.

Marcello R.
Even after working in restaurants for eight years, Marcello Roman still could not make ends meet because of lay offs during slow periods for five months each year. This 25-year-old married father of two wanted more stability for himself and his family. So during a layoff in the spring of 2001 he enrolled at Per Scholas. After completing the training, he returned to his restaurant job while working with our job developer to find a full-time technology position. Eventually, Marcello was hired by Time Warner as a technician earning $12.52 per hour with benefits.

By earning additional certifications he moved up the ranks and today his base salary is $62,000. He has purchased his first home and recently bought a new car. When asked how the training impacted his life he said, "Besides my family, Per Scholas is the best thing that ever happened to me. Now I can offer a lot more to my family, including stability."
