Julian Cohen is Senior Director of Career Pathways. Julian joined Per Scholas in 2017 and now leads our youth career pathways work. Julian comes to Per Scholas after a career at the NYC Department of Education, where he began as a founding teacher at Central Park East Secondary School (CPESS), a pioneer small school in East Harlem. At the central offices of the NYC Department of Education, Julian led the Office of School Design and Charter Partnerships, and was part of a team responsible for opening 200 new schools in all five boroughs over the course of six years. Julian was a director in the DoE’s first Office of Postsecondary Readiness where he led the department’s design of a new model, Pathways to Technology Early College High School (P-TECH), and participated in the Expanded Success Initiative (ESI), which focused on strategies to prepare Black and Latino young men for college and careers. Julian is proud to be part of Per Scholas, an organization that shares his values of innovation, education and equity.
