Ten Diverse Technologists Graduate Inaugural Per Scholas Orlando Course

Orlando Native Drives Equity in Tech in Per Scholas Leadership Role

Orlando, Fla. (October 14, 2022) – Today, learners successfully graduated from Per Scholas’s inaugural End User Desktop Support course in Orlando, preparing the technologists to advance their career in the IT industry. For more than 27 years, Per Scholas has advanced economic equity through technology, and this course marks the national nonprofit’s first graduation in its four-city expansion in 2022. The Orlando course was powered by TEKsystems, a global provider of technology, business, and talent solutions for more than 80 percent of the Fortune 500.

Franklin Reed, Executive Director of Global Inclusion & Diversity at TEKsystems, delivered remarks during the celebration, encouraging graduates to keep climbing in their technology careers. “The partnership between TEKsystems and Per Scholas is tremendous, driving our ability to create more access and opportunity and address the talent shortages that exist in IT,” he said. “We believe our partnership brings together our strengths to improve the livelihood of our communities, to empower the equity of businesses, and to transform the cities in which we serve.”

Per Scholas graduates have mastered specific technical skills employers seek in entry and mid-level End User Desktop Support roles. This course is designed to prepare learners with fundamental concepts in Networking, Active Directory, ITIL and more. Successful learners graduate with CompTIA A+ certification.

In addition to TEKsystems, Per Scholas’s launch in Orlando is generously supported by Founder’s Circle Member BlackRock, which is helping Per Scholas expand to Florida.

Orlando native Jeremy Garren is leading Per Scholas Orlando as Managing Director. “I am so incredibly proud of our inaugural cohort. Their grit, teamwork, and determination, that was on display each day was truly remarkable. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this talented, diverse group. The opportunities that await here in Orlando, I sincerely believe, are limitless,” said Jeremy Garren, Per Scholas Orlando Managing Director.

In mid-November, Per Scholas Orlando will offer its second tech training opportunity, this time focused on Full Stack Java Development. This course is also powered by TEKsystems and will produce entry and mid-level Java Developers by advancing learners’ coding skills, and offering experience with Java, data structures, web services, algorithms, and more.
