Per Scholas Selected as Grantee in MDRC’s Sector Training Evidence Building Project
Per Scholas is honored to be named a grantee in the Sector Training Evidence Building Project (STEP), an initiative led by MDRC and supported by Ascendium Education Group to strengthen the next generation of evidence-building for sectoral training programs nationwide.
Through this opportunity, Per Scholas will partner with the American Institutes for Research (AIR) to explore how integrating generative AI tools into our job readiness curriculum can enhance job attainment supports for learners. This study will begin with a formative evaluation of four implementation models and ultimately scale the most effective approach across all Per Scholas markets.
“As we continue to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, it’s crucial that we prioritize the implementation of generative AI tools that not only demonstrate clear value and impact but also, and most importantly, lead to tangible job attainment outcomes for our graduates,” said Per Scholas Chief Operating Officer Tamera Johnson. “Our partnership with AIR on this initiative will enable us to clearly understand this impact.”
“Job placement supports are critical for helping people find jobs they can thrive in but there isn’t much known on how to do it well at scale. Answering this question is increasingly important as AI roils traditional pathways into the job market,” said AIR Managing Director Samia Amin. “We are excited to partner with Per Scholas to explore effective models for braiding generative AI with in-person supports.”
By participating in STEP, Per Scholas will contribute to building new evidence about the sectoral training model while continuing to innovate and expand access to effective workforce development solutions in technology.
We are grateful to MDRC and Ascendium Education Group for this investment in research and continued collaboration, and look forward to advancing the impact of tech training together.
