Standing on that stage, I realized my story wasn't just about me anymore. It represented every person who has ever questioned whether they belonged in technology. Being able to share my journey was a powerful reminder of just how far Per Scholas had helped me come.

When modern enterprise teams look for standout talent, technical skills are only half the equation. The most high-performing employees are those who combine technical knowledge with real-world problem-solving, resilience, and an unstoppable drive to learn.
Angelica Ramos’s journey demonstrates how high-potential individuals, equipped with the right training, transform into agile, high-value tech professionals.
For 10+ years, Angelica has built a solid foundation working in customer service. She gained invaluable experience in communication, client relations, and handling high-pressure situations. Yet, she knew she wanted more… a career offering long-term stability, continuous advancement, and a path that would show her children that it is never too late to reinvent yourself.
Her curiosity turned toward technology after a conversation about Amazon Web Services (AWS). Driven to explore the industry, she conducted research that led her to Per Scholas and its no-cost AWS re/Start program.
“When I discovered the program, it felt like someone had finally opened a door I didn’t even know existed,” Angelica shares. “I decided to take a chance on myself, step outside of my comfort zone, and pursue something completely different.”
Per Scholas provided the launching pad, giving Angelica hands-on training in cloud fundamentals and sharpening her problem-solving capabilities.
But graduation was just the beginning. Angelica immediately applied her new technical fluency and customer service background as an IT Campus Technician, resolving hardware, network, and infrastructure issues for staff and learners daily.
Driven to continually elevate her qualifications, she expanded her technical skillset:
- Industry Certifications: Earned additional CompTIA credentials to broaden her IT foundation.
- Advanced Education: Enrolled in college to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity.
- Enterprise Placement: Joined Capital One as a Senior Collections Associate, strategically leveraging the company’s strong employee development programs to position herself for long-term internal transitions into cloud infrastructure, systems administration, and cybersecurity roles.
The skills and confidence Angelica gained through Per Scholas transformed her day-to-day work and gave her opportunities to take the national stage. AWS invited Angelica to speak on a panel at the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) Conference, alongside Amazon leaders, to inspire the next generation of tech talent.
“Standing on that stage, I realized my story wasn’t just about me anymore,” she reflects. “It represented every person who has ever questioned whether they belonged in technology. Being able to share my journey alongside leaders from Amazon was a powerful reminder of just how far Per Scholas had helped me come.”
For Angelica, the true impact of Per Scholas extends far beyond her resume. It changed how she views her own potential and allowed her to model resilience for her family.
“As a mother, one of my greatest accomplishments is being able to show my children that your circumstances don’t have to determine your future,” Angelica says. “You can start over. You can learn something new. Per Scholas transformed not only my career but also the way I viewed myself. Today, I know that I belong here.”
Angelica finds her journey “Transformational”; It is a testament to the fact that when organizations invest in non-traditional tech talent pipelines, they gain driven, adaptable professionals equipped with the grit and technical acumen to move businesses forward.
