Antonio Cuevas

Before attending Per Scholas, Antonio Cuevas’ work background was primarily in physical and unskilled labor jobs. He had tried college, but did not continue with it as he wasn’t sure what he wanted to pursue at the time.

Antonio wasn’t happy with where he was at in his career. He did not feel that he had opportunities for career advancement, or that he was challenging himself. Antonio had always been fascinated with phones and computers, and so he decided to make a total career change, ultimately leaving his job to attend an IT Support course at Per Scholas. 

“I took the leap because I knew that it was going to put me in a better position in life than where I was at,” Antonio recalled. “I wanted to really challenge myself mentally and prove to myself that I could do this, that I could go through this rigorous training and do something that was more important to me and in demand from employers…It’s put me in a better position. I’m in a whole new career and am so happy with my choice to attend Per Scholas!”

Antonio found Per Scholas to be an exciting and enjoyable experience. “My classmates were very interactive, kind and supportive,” he reflected. “The instructors were phenomenal. They went through everything to make through we thoroughly understood the content. They sacrificed their own time if we needed extra help and were always there for us, even after hours, to make sure we succeeded in class.”

The work was tough, but Antonio appreciated the opportunity to challenge himself. He believes that both the technical training and career development aspects of the program were very helpful in his job search after graduating, giving him the confidence to speak in interviews and the IT knowledge to ace technical interviews. 

Antonio now works as a Network Support Technician at Millennium Digital Technologies. He wants to learn more about networking and earn his CompTIA Network+ certification and CCNA certification, and would like to eventually transition to the field of cybersecurity.
