Before discovering Per Scholas, Carter Guin had completed college and was working as a preacher. One day, he realized he needed a career change, a profession that offered stability, growth, and a future he could build for himself.
Carter explored different career paths, unsure where to begin and seeking a role that aligned with his talents and ambitions. Then, he first encountered the Per Scholas Satellite program at a CityLink job fair. He was immediately intrigued.
Carter’s experience proved transformative:
- He received personalized guidance from instructors
- He built strong connections with his classmates
- He thrived in a collaborative, rigorous environment
Within a few months of completing the program, he and his peers were offered jobs in IT. Carter landed his first tech role as a Service Desk Associate at Nexigen.
Carter is naturally competitive and thrives under pressure. Per Scholas pushed him to grow in ways he hadn’t experienced before. He remembers narrowly failing his first core exam by three points, but with determination, he retook it and passed by 30 points.
The program’s structure, supportive instructors, and hands-on learning environment helped him develop resilience, confidence, and the technical skills needed to succeed.
Carter has most recently secured a full-time role as an Onsite Support Engineer I at Path Forward IT, supporting a 40-member radiology physician group with their home workstations and across three hospitals in Cincinnati and one in Virginia.
In this position, Carter finds his work deeply rewarding, interacting with patients and physicians while applying the skills he learned to provide critical technical support.
For Carter, Per Scholas was just the beginning. Inspired by the program, he earned his MBA in IT Management and is continuing to build expertise and advance his career.
Reflecting on his journey, Carter comments, “Per Scholas helped me see that I can do IT as a career. They impact more than you will ever see; they change lives and create futures. This journey inspired me to grow, aim higher, and become the best version of myself.”
