Tech Training Nonprofit’s Growth Supported by Barclays, AT&T, Office of the Brooklyn Borough President, The New York Community Trust, and Empire State Development

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (September 28, 2016) – Hundreds of community members, nonprofit and business leaders, and Per Scholas students and alumni celebrated Per Scholas’ expansion to Brooklyn yesterday, marking the organization’s second New York location. New York State Department of Financial Services Superintendent Maria Vullo applauded Per Scholas’ tenacity in providing rigorous, tuition-free technology training to New Yorkers striving for careers in technology. The expansion to Brooklyn will enable Per Scholas to train an additional 140 New Yorkers annually, resulting in more than 550 New Yorkers trained and prepared for technology careers every year.

Department of Financial Services (“DFS”) Superintendent Maria T. Vullo remarked, “I want to congratulate Per Scholas for providing New York communities with innovative and vital opportunities for advancement in technology, and for educating the next generation of leaders. I am honored to be part of the grand opening of Per Scholas’ second New York location and its first in Brooklyn, my hometown borough. CYBERSECURITY TRAINING NOW UNDERWAY AT PER SCHOLAS NEW YORK

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (September 22, 2016) – Per Scholas New York today launched a new cybersecurity training track, powered in large part by Barclays. Twenty new Per Scholas students started the course today at the organization’s South Bronx headquarters and are expected to move to a new classroom space at 630 Flushing Avenue in Brooklyn later this fall. More than 50 percent of the new students call Brooklyn home, and, staying true to its commitment to student diversity, Per Scholas is welcoming a class where 41 percent are women and 29 percent are veterans. The expansion to Brooklyn will enable Per Scholas to train an additional 140 New Yorkers annually, resulting in more than 550 New Yorkers trained and on-track for technology careers every year.

Per Scholas Cincinnati Receives $20,000 Scripps Howard Foundation Grant

The Scripps Howard Foundation has awarded $20,000 to Per Scholas Cincinnati in support of the new Quality Assurance Software training track.  

The Quality Assurance Software training track is a Per Scholas program designed to prepare individuals from the greater Cincinnati region for positions as quality assurance software testers. The program is a collaboration between Per Scholas, Ingage Partners and Thrive Urban Impact Sourcing to ensure the IT sector is providing opportunities for individuals from underrepresented communities.

Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley Joins Per Scholas to Discuss Inaugural Quality Assurance Class, Impact on Region

In May, Per Scholas had the pleasure of hosting Mayor John Cranley and Director of Community Affairs Bridget Patton at the Per Scholas Greater Cincinnati offices and classroom at CityLink. Mayor Cranley, attended a Quality Assurance Software Testing class to meet with students, give remarks on overcoming obstacles in a career and answer questions about a variety of different topics of interest about the city.

This inaugural quality assurance software testing class, a training program offered by Per Scholas in collaboration with Ingage Partners and Thrive Impact Sourcing, is designed to prepare individuals from the Greater Cincinnati region for positions as quality assurance software testers. Like all Per Scholas programs, this course is offered tuition-free to individuals who are un- or underemployed and seeking a better career path in IT.

IT Workforce Development Organization Per Scholas Receives Federal Grant to Create More Pathways to Tech Careers

NEW YORK (June 30, 2016) – This week, the Obama Administration announced $150 million in funding from the Department of Labor through TechHire partnership grants for organizations to launch innovative training and placement models to develop tech talent, as a way to keep and create jobs in local economies. Per Scholas, a national IT workforce development organization, will be implementing programs at for four of its sites – the National Capital Region, New York City, Columbus, and Greater Cincinnati. This funding will enable Per Scholas to deepen and expand its model for workforce development in order to provide life-changing business and life skills and to drive economic mobility for individuals in these regions.
