NextGen AI-Powered Course Attendance Policy

Our courses have a strict attendance requirement. Review the information below to understand what’s expected.

Weekly Schedule

Live Block — 10 hrs/week

  • Monday–Friday, 9:00–11:00 AM: live, instructor-led session
  • Strategic coaching, project work, capstone support, and mentorship — not just content delivery
  • In-Person/Hybrid campuses stay open 9 AM–4 PM. After the live block, work your AI labs on campus with peers and floating instructors, or continue remotely with virtual instructor support available until 4 PM.

AI Block — 20 hrs/week

  • Self-paced work in the Per Scholas AI-Native platform
  • Adaptive lessons that speed up or slow down based on what you need
  • Virtual labs, real-time feedback, and 1:1 support from Azari, your AI tutor
  • Ongoing progress tracking so you always know where you stand

Independent Study — 5 hrs/week

  • Time outside your assigned Live and AI Block activities to reinforce what you’re learning

Attendance Rules

  • Attend the full live session, on time, whether you’re on-premise, remote, or hybrid.
  • Arriving after start time or leaving early counts as a tardy.
  • Missing 50% or more of a session counts as an absence. Missing less than 50% is a tardy.
  • Notify Per Scholas staff by email or phone if you’ll be late or absent. This helps us support you — it doesn’t change how the absence or tardy is recorded.
  • Stay fully present during live sessions. No driving, working, or other multitasking.

Engagement Score

Maintain a weekly average of 76% or higher to stay in good standing.

  • Falling below 76% four times → dismissal
  • Falling below 50% in Week 1 → immediate dismissal
  • Exceeding allowed absences/tardies, or missing Week 1, can also result in dismissal

Your engagement score is one weekly number that combines two things: how you show up to live instruction, and how you engage with your AI-led lab work. It’s based on research showing that time-on-task alone doesn’t predict learning outcomes — active participation does (Kestin et al., 2025).

If your weekly score drops below 76%: it’s logged as a strike, and your Professional Development Coach will reach out within 24 hours — not to penalize you, but to help figure out what’s getting in the way. We’re aiming to catch patterns early, before they become a bigger problem. If a low-engagement pattern continues week after week, it can lead to dismissal from the program, but by that point, you’ll have heard from your coach many times.

How the Score Is Calculated

Scores are calculated daily and averaged into a weekly score. Each day, 50 points come from your Live Block and 50 points come from your AI Block.

Block Dimension Points What’s Measured
Live (50 pts) Attendance 25 Absence = 0 pts · Tardy = 12 pts
Live (50 pts) Participation 25 In-session engagement
AI (50 pts) Activity Completion 25 % of assigned AI modules completed that day
AI (50 pts) Azari Engagement 25 Quality of interaction with Azari, reflection journal, discussion participation

No Show Day: No activity in either block on the same day = 0 points for that day.
