You will build career-ready skills through:
- Installing & Connecting Cabling: Build complete cable runs from start to finish using copper and fiber optic cabling, and practice testing connections and finding common problems.
- Fiber Optic Skills: Learn to connect, splice, inspect, and test fiber optic cable, including single-mode and multimode fiber, while preparing for the FOA Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) exam
- Routing & Protecting Cabling Learn how cabling is safely run through buildings using conduit, cable trays, and other pathways that organize and protect low-voltage systems
- Troubleshooting with AI Tools: Use AI tools alongside traditional testing methods to understand problems, identify possible causes, and work through solutions.
- Safety & Industry Credentials Build safety, fiber, and workplace technology skills while preparing for credentials including OSHA 10-Hour General Industry, NFPA 70E, FOA CFOT, ServiceNow, IT Service Management, and Google AI Essentials.

As a Low Voltage Fiber Technician graduate, you’ll be prepared to pursue entry-level roles installing, testing, troubleshooting, and supporting the cabling and low-voltage systems used in businesses, data centers, and other connected environments.

In these roles, you may install and route cable, terminate copper connections, splice and test fiber optics, build cable pathways, connect low-voltage devices, test network connections, troubleshoot problems, and document completed installation work. You’ll help build and maintain the physical infrastructure that keeps commercial buildings, data centers, and other connected environments running. This region is one of the fastest-growing data center markets in the country, and every new facility needs technicians who can install and certify the cabling inside it.
Important to know:
- Most entry-level roles are hands-on and on-site because the work involves tools, cabling, equipment, buildings, and physical infrastructure.
- Day-to-day work may include standing or bending for extended periods, routing cable, using hand and power tools, and following detailed safety procedures.
- Your first role is a starting point to build experience, strengthen your technical skills, and take on more advanced responsibilities over time.
- With experience, you can continue developing specialized skills in fiber optics, low-voltage systems, field installation, and project work.

What You'll Learn
Install and Test Fiber Optic Cabling
Learn how to work with single-mode and multimode fiber, including safely handling cable, splicing and terminating fiber, inspecting and cleaning connectors, and testing completed fiber connections.
Build Low-Voltage Cabling Systems
Learn how cabling gets from one place to another inside buildings. You’ll practice installing copper cabling, building cable pathways, working with conduit and cable trays, and using common hand and power tools.
Connect, Test & Troubleshoot Systems
Learn how cabling connects to network and low-voltage devices and how to check whether those connections are working properly. You’ll use testing tools and AI-assisted troubleshooting techniques to identify problems and work through solutions.

- Live within eligible distance of the advertised Per Scholas Site
- Have basic digital literacy
- Meet the pre-training income policy guidelines
- Comfortable with hands-on physical work — including lifting equipment, standing for extended periods, and working with tools — and ready to learn in an accelerated training.
- Can attend classes full-time for the entire duration of the course
- Are aged 18 or older
- Have a High School diploma, equivalent, or higher
- Must be able to provide proof of valid U.S. work authorization
- Can read, write, and speak in English
- Are able to start a full-time job after course completion
- Ready to make an important commitment to building your future

2. Admissions Overview: Once you submit an Eligibility Form, you’ll be directed to our Admissions Overview registration page. During this virtual webinar, you’ll learn more about our admissions process and next steps.
3. Assessments: Each training requires either an academic assessment, tech assessment, or both. Information will be provided in detail in the Admissions Overview.
4. Interview: Individuals who meet the assessment score requirements will be invited to attend a behavioral interview.
5. Offer Letter and Onboarding: The Admissions team will review assessment scores, completed Tech Prep Work, and interview results, and offer seats to eligible candidates. Learners are required to submit Enrollment Documentation as part of Onboarding.

What You’ll Do Post-Training
Depending on your role, you may install and route copper or fiber optic cable, build cable pathways, splice and terminate fiber, install network connections and low-voltage devices, test completed work, troubleshoot problems, and document installations.
Deeper Dive into the Job
Low-voltage and fiber work is hands-on and typically takes place on-site in commercial buildings, data centers, residential properties, and other installation environments. You may work on your feet, bend or reach to route cable, use hand and power tools, distinguish colors, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Successful technicians follow safety procedures carefully, pay attention to detail, communicate well with their team, and are comfortable working in active job-site environments.

You will prepare to earn the OSHA 10-Hour General Industry and NFPA 70E certifications.
- I receive unemployment insurance benefits or other benefits that require me to spend time working or looking for work. Can I still enroll?

Yes. Generally, Per Scholas courses are approved for people receiving unemployment insurance, as well as other benefits that would ordinarily require them to spend time working or looking for work. Your benefits should not be affected. If you have questions or concerns about your situation, please contact us.
- I meet other requirements, but I am not a U.S. citizen and haven’t received my work authorization yet. Can I still apply?
