Deciding to move halfway across the world is a huge decision for you and your family. Yet it’s one that Sheillah Ndeda Aligula, originally from Kenya, made confidently. Sheillah was determined to find better opportunities for herself and her three children. This ambition led to her moving to the United States while her children remained in Kenya while she became settled.

Sheillah had always been interested in technology, so this was an obvious avenue for exploration. However, she had no idea how to break into the field. She lacked the money to pursue traditional formal education and had no experience with nonprofit courses and offerings. “Back home, we are not that lucky to have opportunities or platforms like Per Scholas where someone can get a free education,” Sheillah recalls.

However, moving to the United States meant she had access to the tech education courses offered via Per Scholas. Sheillah learned about the organization through a friend and immediately enrolled in an IT Support course. She was excited to discover what she could learn. “I knew that I could find a good job to continue paying school fees. I am so grateful to the financial coaches, instructors, and Per Scholas,” she says.

Since graduating, Sheillah has started a promising career as an IT Coordinator at Artech Information Systems LLC and has received her internationally recognized Google IT Support Professional certification.
