On May 5th, 37 women technologists graduated from the latest Tech Women in Color cohort at Per Scholas Columbus! They were joined by friends and family, Per Scholas Midwest Regional Senior Vice President Noah Mitchell, and President and CEO Plinio Ayala.

The Tech Women of Color workforce initiative at Per Scholas Columbus will train more than 200 women learners to enter into the tech industry with in-demand skills. The training was featured in a local news broadcast with ABC Television affiliate, ABC 6.

Per Scholas Columbus was featured in The Columbus Dispatch for our grant promoting the Tech Women of Color Initiative. The Franklin County Board of Commissioners committed to developing the county workforce to meet the growing demand for technology jobs by voting unanimously to approve a more than $4.5 million COVID-19 recovery grant to support this initiative.

Per Scholas began training for our first cohort of women learners enrolled in our inaugural Women in Software Engineering (WISE) pre-apprenticeship program and received funding to lead Tech Women of Color training in Columbus.

Franklin County Commissioners Invest $4.5 Million To Help Women of Color Join the Tech Sector

The Commissioners voted unanimously to approve a more than $4.5 million COVID-19 recovery grant to support the new Tech Women of Color workforce training initiative. This innovative partnership between the Franklin County Department of Job and Family Services and the nationally recognized tech training nonprofit Per Scholas will help train and place 200 low-income women of color on the path to self-sufficiency through good-paying jobs.

Per Scholas Graduates Over 250 Learners in 2022

Two months into the year, we have graduated more than 250 learners in IT Support, AWS re/Start, Cybersecurity, and Software Engineering. With learners safely returning to campus and remote training underway nationwide, we are on track to train 4,000 learners this year.

Per Scholas Awarded Grant and Named 2021 Neighborhood Builders® by Bank of America

Per Scholas has been named as one of the 2021 Bank of America Neighborhood Builders® awardees for their work in the Columbus community addressing these issues. As a Neighborhood Builder, each organization receives a $200,000 grant over two years and additional leadership training.
